Ryan has followed his Olympic wins with an agenda to use his achievements to help others. Whenever possible Ryan provides swimming clinics all over the country to help swimmers further develop their technique.

Following the Beijing Olympics, he traveled to Washington, D.C. and lobbied for the passing of the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Care Act, which was subsequently signed by President Bush. Ryan is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for research for the charity Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. http://www.parentprojectmd.org

Ryan is also the spokesperson for the Mac Crutchfield Fund, a local charity that provides scholarships to high school seniors. Mac Crutchfield was a 12 year old boy and a swimmer for ATAC, who drowned in a rain storm in August 2008. http://maccrutchfieldfoundation.com/

With a natural eye for fashion, Ryan is combining his skills and passion on new projects. He is a Speedo-sponsored athlete who has aided in the design of the brand’s board shorts line, graced the cover of Men’s Journal and has been featured in high fashion magazine spreads, including GQ, V Man and Wall Street Journal Magazine. He looks forward to taking part in future modeling and ad campaigns.

Ryan was born in Rochester, New York and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida where his parents were swimmers, so it was only natural that his parents coached him up until college. Ryan currently trains under the direction of Coach Gregg Troy at the University of Florida.

Ryan enjoys surfing, skateboarding, volleyball, basketball, drawing and spending time with his dog, Carter.
